Mission Statement
To serve our client communities as advocates and teachers in order to address the causes and symptoms of poverty, foster individual independence and dignity, and protect and promote tribal sovereignty. Our services help our clients develop the resources necessary to meet external challenges, and help off-reservation communities and businesses better understand our clients and respect their rights. We focus our resources on those most vulnerable, and on those for whom we can achieve long-term benefits by breaking the cycle of poverty.
Description
DNA is the largest Indian legal aid organization in the country, with 10 offices throughout and around the Navajo, Hopi, and Jicarilla-Apache reservations. We also serve Coconino County AZ and San Juan County NM, as well as the Hualapai and Havsupai tribes. We provide free civil attorneys to those living at or below 125% of the poverty level. We have a Volunteer Lawyers Program, where AZ and tribally-licensed attorneys and Tribal Court Advocates can volunteer to help our clients through direct representation, consultations with clients, mentoring new legal aid attorneys, and helping out with community legal education events.
