Mission Statement

To effect change in the way community cats are viewed and treated in the City of Edmond, Oklahoma through the implementation of Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR).

Description

Our primary focus is to humanely and non-lethally reduce the numbers of free-roaming community cats in the City of Edmond, Oklahoma by implementing an aggressive Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) program along with a pro-active community outreach and education program that addresses the value of community cats and the importance of spay/neuter.

TNR is the most effective and humane long-term approach to reducing the feral cat population in the City of Edmond, where the current method of control is "catch and kill." It is estimated that, nationwide, approximately 70% of homeless cats entering municipal shelters are killed. Through our efforts we aim to reduce the euthanasia rate of feral cats in the City of Edmond.

TNR involves humanely trapping, spaying/neutering, vaccinating, marking for identification, and then returning of feral cats to the location from which they were trapped so that they may live out their lives. TNR respects feral cats' right to live, and their niche in the community, without adding to the homeless cat population. TNR stabilizes the feral cat population and, over time, reduces it through attrition all while substantially reducing or eliminating nuisance behaviors.
