Mission Statement

The Milk Commission ensures that the citizens of the Commonwealth have a constant, available and resonably priced supply of milk & assures the industry that the supply of milk is equitably priced.The Virginia State Milk Commission is a regulatory state agency that was created in 1934. It is comprised of 7 commissioners appointed by the Governor to serve four year terms. There are four consumer members, two dairy farmers and a milk processor. The Commission does not receive any funding from the general revenues of the Commonwealth, rather it receives its funding from the dairy industry it regulates. The Milk Commission provides an economic incentive to dairy farmers to produce milk by establishing a future price based on an economic formula. The agency also audits milk processors and investigates fair trade matters.

Description

The Virginia State Milk Commission, a state agency of the Commonwealth of Virginia, is looking for several volunteers to research retal fluid milk product prices in various parts of the state. These individuals will record retail milk prices once a month and transmit the information to the Commission to assist it in monitoring consumer prices. It will involve surveying at least three major grocery chain supermarkets during a specified part of each month. Gathering this information is of utmost importance to the agency and to its mission.
