Mission Statement

The Milk Commission ensures that the citizens of the Commonwealth have a constant, available and resonably priced supply of milk & assures the industry that the supply of milk is equitably priced. The Virginia State Milk Commission is a regulatory state agency that was created in 1934. It is comprised of 7 commissioners appointed by the Governor to serve four year terms. There are four consumer members, two dairy farmers and a milk processor. The Commission does not receive any funding from the general revenues of the Commonwealth, rather it receives its funding from the dairy industry it regulates. The Milk Commission provides an economic incentive to dairy farmers to produce milk by establishing a future price based on an economic formula. The agency also audits milk processors and investigates fair trade matters.
