Mission Statement

Plan C Initiative is a non-profit organization established to empower Florida communities to develop ecological landscapes; that is, biologically diverse spaces that support people and wildlife, and enhance biological and social connectivity.

We envision ecological landscaping becoming the prevailing approach to urban landscaping in Florida, and as a result we expect to have communities that are more self-reliant and sustainable. Ultimately, we see the urban areas in the Tampa Bay region becoming one large ecological landscape that will support increased biodiversity and provide a variety of services to humans and wildlife.

Plan C Initiative works with communities, governments and businesses in the following ways:

  • Engaging communities in re-thinking the function of their yards and other green spaces.
  • Working with communities to provide the education and tools they need to design and install ecological landscapes, and implement long-term maintenance plans.
  • Offering workshops, interpretive programs, field outings, as well as events and programs of various natures, revolving around ecological landscaping and sustainability.
  • Guiding visits to demonstration sites that showcase various ecological landscape's aesthetics, sizes, and emphasis.
  • Providing assistance for continuing community-building and fostering of additional ecological and social connectivity.
  • Offering a wide variety of interpretive and educational resource materials on ecological landscaping and local wildlife.
  • Organizing and facilitating community-based activities such as trade markets, festivals and other projects relating to ecological landscaping and sustainability.
  • Offering a network of landscape professionals with expertise in native plant communities and edible plants.
  • Providing on-line basic ecological landscape design models for various Florida ecosystem types, as well as resources and links on ecological landscaping and other relevant sustainability topics.
  • Offering a members' web page for past Plan C project participants to highlight any and all evolutions of their community, organization or business projects relating to ecological landscaping.
