Our focus is on vulnerable populations including youth, seniors and low income adults. We teach practical financial information using methods that apply the psychology of money and techniques that improve adult learning and retention. Our staff trains volunteers to present classes all over the city.

The classes focus on relevant personal financial topics including setting goals, budgeting and saving, banking, managing credit and debt and student debt. For senior citizens, we hold classes about how to avois scams and protect their identity.

Our office is generously provided by Fordham Law School at its Lincoln Center campus.

I am a volunteer financial education teacher and board member of CDE. I was teaching with them for three years before I was invited to join the board. The Coalition provides financial education to vulnerable residents of New York City. I have given classes to non-profits in Harlem, Chelsea, Brooklyn and many other locations within the city. Schools and charitable organizations contact CDE looking for volunteers for financial education classes. CDE offers "train the trainer" workshops on how to teach the principles of financial education to the various groups. I would absolutely recommend volunteering at CDE as a teacher or intern or pro bono provider. It needs the help and you will feel valued by the class students and CDE. Carol O'Rourke runs the group and looks forward to hearing from you!
