HISTORY - Originally, founded in 2008 as the Latin programming component of the Mission Creek Music and Arts Festival, CONVERGENCE, now in its fourth year of programming, has established itself as one of the leaders of international underground and alternative programming in the San Francisco/Bay Area.
THE PRODUCER - For over a decade, Ann Blankenship has been highly active in supporting her local arts community. She has worked extensively with Bay Area festivals such as Carnaval San Francisco and Mission Creek Music & Arts Festival in the areas of programming and production. In 2008, Ann Blankenship established CONVERGENCE to further her support of exemplary international experimental and alternative music.
PARTNERSHIPS - Each year CONVERGENCE partners with local arts, community organizations and promoters in presenting the festival. This year’s partners and sponsors are: Intersection for the Arts (Fiscal Sponsor), SFREMEZCLA.com (Official Media Sponsor), Mission Cultural Center for Latino Arts, New People, Mucho Musica, Japantown Merchants Assoc. and the SF Recreation & Parks Dept.
AUDIENCE & ATTENDANCE - Programming is geared towards all young urban trendsetters (generally 18-25+) who have an appreciation for international culture, music, and art. Average attendance for club events ranges from 75-150. Attendance for 2011 is estimated at over 1000 attendees, with 500+ for the outdoor festival and 500+ for other festival events including film series and club events.
