Here's a sample of our volunteer opportunities:VIEW AS
Sisters Achieving Success, Inc. (S.A.S.) is a 501 c 3 non-profit organization that seeks to empower girls and young women between the ages of 5 to 24 in building confidence, self-esteem, developing leadership skills, and recognizing their full potential. S.A.S. will provide relief to the underprivileged, poor and distressed by increasing economic self-sufficiency; encourage the advancement of education; lessening the burden of Government; lessening neighborhood tensions; and combating community deterioration and juvenile delinquency.
We take a non-traditional approach to educate youth in our program. Our program is geared towards helping girls overcome the effects of gender inequities. One way we aim to meet our mission statement is by encouraging and supporting interests in science, technology, engineering and math. S.A.S. takes a bold approach in addressing and combating challenges faced by women such as teen pregnancy, poverty, cultural awareness, etc. S.A.S. challenge our children intellectually and expect them to face inhibitions and meet and exceed set goals. Hands on workshops with skilled professionals, cultural exposure, guest lecturers and one on one mentoring are some of the approaches we take to encourage educational advancement. Our program encourages youth participation and interaction. This variety of approaches helps us to meet the various learning needs of children, whether they learn aurally, visually or kinetically. The members of Sisters Achieving Success are required to volunteer. Volunteerism is a significant part of our program. For example our 2010 back-to-school backpack drive. This is an annual event that provided nearly 50 children throughout the community with school supplies. However, our future goals are to continually increase the amount of families and children that benefit from the backpack give away. This is significant because it enables our organization to reach our members, as well as, members throughout the community. S.A.S will measure the effectiveness of our program by requiring report cards and parent/member evaluations will be done bi-annually. This keeps our organization aware of our strengths and opportunities for improvement. Educational advancement is further encouraged by providing the opportunity to members of S.A.S to earn stipends.
