Mission Statement

The purpose of the Adelante Young Men's (AYM) Conference is to provide young men with tools for personal and professional growth, challenge them to raise their expectations, promote leadership and encourage them to pursue a post-high school education, so that they may achieve their goals and have a positive impact on their lives and the lives of others.

Description

Recent research and statistics are proving young men are underperforming in our society. Now, more than ever, they need older, positive, male role models in their life to provide direction, support and encouragement. For that reason, on November 9th, 2013 the 3rd Adelante Young Men (AYM) Conference will take place at Pasadena City College, sponsored by Pasadena Youth Center.

The AYM Conference will focus on high school boys, and be presented in an informative and supportive manner, so that they will have the opportunity to take part in interactive, age-appropriate educational workshops related to issues that affect their lives now and in the future. Positive male leaders from various academic disciplines and levels, business leaders, health professionals, sports representatives, legal professionals, governmental leaders and other male representatives will conduct workshops on a variety of timely and topical issues. By acting as real-life role models, presenters will impart first-hand examples and scenarios of positive decision-making via approximately 50 minute workshops. Attendees will have the option of choosing two morning and one afternoon workshops of interest to them.

Schools should send male students from a variety of backgrounds and interests. This full day conference is being held to address the many concerns and challenges facing young men today. It is an effort to address research which shows that this stage of developmental and academic transition is when male students are most vulnerable to making negative choices in their life, while still open to accepting advice and support from other males.
