Mission Statement

The mission of Friends for Life is to promote health, enhance quality of life, and help individuals with HIV to live with dignity and purpose.

Description

FFL operates out of--but is not affiliated with--the Episcopal Church of the Annunciation in Oradell, NJ. A small but dedicated corps of volunteers prepares and serves meals, supports clients, and leads activities (meditation, arts and crafts, and discussions). Friends for Life provides four categories of services to individuals living with HIV: (1) Transportation Service to medical, dental, pharmaceutical, and eye appointments for all clients, and transportation to and from our Day Respite Program, (2) Peer Support Groups, (3) Nutritional Services (congregate meals and food pantry) for low-income, medically indigent HIV+ infected individuals in Bergen and Passaic Counties, and (4) Outreach/Health Education/Risk Reduction support service for communities of color, offering culturally and linguistically appropriate services to individuals living with HIV and AIDS. Friends for Life is the only AIDS-support organization in northern New Jersey to offer a Day Respite Program. Our clients have access to on-site case management, health education and risk-reduction presentations, complementary therapies (massage, Reiki, acupuncture), two mental health groups through Bergen Family Services, and quality of life activities such as outings to the theater, movies, picnics, or bowling
