"It is the mission of Live Oak Institute to cull from ancient and emerging ways of wisdom and social responsibility to create communities that advance a meaningful role for elders, wherever they live."

Description

For the past 35 years, Live Oak Institute has been developing the communities and culture that give meaning, purpose and power to the role of elder. We are dedicated to transforming the places where elders live, the services they receive and provide and our contribution to future generations.

We have been developing our Regenerative Community Culture to transform nursing homes from institutions to elder-centered communities in the United States and more recently in Israel.

We are currently piloting the Elders' Guild as a chapter based organization to create the communities where we re-imagine our old age, look after one another and embody the wisdom that will enable us to help heal the future. The Elders' Guild is community rather than institutionally based.

Live Oak Institute director Barry Barkan was awarded an Ashoka Fellowship for his work in developing the Elder's Guild.
