The mission of Ohio Animal Companion is to reduce the number of homeless pets in the state of Ohio and foster appreciation for all animals by educating the public on lifelong responsible pet ownership, promoting the efforts of area rescues and shelters, and encouraging humane interaction with wildlife.
A Positive Community Resource!
Celebrating life with animals is more than just our tagline. It is the ultimate goal of our organization. Strengthening the human-animal bond is a key element in keeping pets out of the shelters and in their homes for life, as well as in fostering a greater understanding and appreciation of our native wildlife. When the human-animal bond is strong, the result is humane and compassionate communities with fewer companion animals in shelters, on the street, or in abusive homes and peaceful co-existence with our wild neighbors.
Where do we come in? We provide pet owners and animal lovers with the resources and information they need to strengthen the human-animal bond, such as:
- Up-to-date resource listings for pet food assistance programs, low cost spay/neuter services, pet medical assistance programs, pet loss support groups
- Comprehensive behavior and training information
- Comprehensive health and wellness information
- Environmental enrichment
- Information on humane wildlife interaction and appreciation
- Activities and events that support the human-animal bond such as dog parks, animal-related social gatherings, educational workshops and benefits
How do we do it?
We believe a key strategy is to provide information in a positive and upbeat way through a variety of channels. Our online magazine and resource center, OhioAnimalCompanion.org, is already becoming a go-to destination for animal information. We have an active social media presence that continues to grow. We produce a free monthly electronic newsletter. We are beginning to have a presence at area community and animal-related events. We are planning a variety of seminars and workshops on animal-related topics for the future. We recognize that finger-pointing and making people feel "bad" about their relationship with animals will not have the intended effect. Because of this, we want our information to be fun and entertaining as well as informative.
There are many ways to get involved. Become a member. Volunteer. Educate yourself about animal matters and share your knowledge with others. Be an advocate for animals. Get your business or organization involved. When you join Ohio Animal Companion, you’re joining a group of passionate people making a difference for animals in our state!
