Description
The Latina A.R.M.Y., Inc. is a volunteer-based, non-profit organization whose mission is to celebrate and empower young Latinas by providing inspirational role models and introducing powerful life skills for personal excellence. In a national effort, accomplished Latinas give two hours of their time to talk to young girls at their local school or community center to teach them four life skills they can use to create the life they want and deserve.
Our VISION and OBJECTIVES
While our program is all-inclusive, our goal is to empower one million Latinas trhoughout the country becuase according to statistics, young Latinas are in a state of crisis. They hold the highest rates of attempted suicide (1 in 7 tries to end her life), teenage pregnancy (53% become pregnant or mothers at least once before the age of 20), staggeringly high rates of HIV infections, and the highest female high school drop out rate in the nation (42%), closely following Latino and African American boys who currently rank the highest.
We strive to provide girls with hands-on forms of self expression and resources to help them manage problems and work toward solutions. Upon completion of our program, we expect our participants will feel empowered and equipped to persue their life's dreams. Our OBJECTIVES are to:
- Build an army of accomplished role models to conduct workshops
- Understand issues and concerns facing girls and their communities
- Embrace and support other organizations with similar objectives
- Generate local and national awareness related to young Latinas in order to generate support and additional aid.
