Mission Statement

The mission of the Victim Support Team is to create a rewarding and sustainable partnership between community volunteers and police, to address and prevent domestic violence. The Victim Support Team is committed to providing comprehensive, culturally relevant, and supportive services to domestic violence victims and their children.

Description

Community volunteers with VST provide crisis intervention, support, and resources to domestic violence victims and their children at secured crime scenes during the critical time following a domestic violence incident. VST volunteers work in teams of two and are supervised by a VST On-Call Supervisor, are dispatched by police radio and respond immediately to secured crime scenes, and are equipped with an unmarked police car, police radio, cell phone, and resources.

VST Volunteers must pass a Seattle Police Department background check, be 21 or over and have a valid WA driver's license. Volunteers must also complete a 50 hour VST training academy and are required to sign up for one 8 hour shift per month and attend 7 out of 12 two hour monthly meetings per year for a minimum of one year.
