The low-income senior citizens and families who live in AHC's affordable housing building are looking forward to having free, healthy groceries delivered to their property. AHC needs 3-5 volunteers to help distribute the groceries (milk, eggs, fresh produce, canned goods and more) on Mondays, 11am-1:15pm. The Shell is located at 870 S Greenbrier St in Arlington VA. There is parking available. We prefer volunteers who can commit to volunteering weekly but will take one-time volunteers. Please contact volunteer@ahcinc.org for more information.

AHC, Arlington’s largest developer of affordable housing, holds Teen Tutoring and After School programs during the school year. Volunteers work one on one or with a small groups of students on literacy and math skills, homework and organizational skills. We are currently looking for volunteers at our Apex location, 2910 S Glebe Road. Teen hours - 6:30-8pm, Tuesdays & Thursdays 10+ volunteers needed, including one female volunteer who can help with Geometry and one female volunteer to help a sixth grade student with all homework If you are not able to help at the Apex, we have other volunteer needs. AHC's education programs are held IN-PERSON at the seven community centers in Arlington (listed below). After School programs for elementary school students run from 3:00pm-6:00pm Monday- Thursday. Teen tutoring programs are in the evening, sometime between 6:00-8:00pm Monday - Thursday. Volunteers are asked to commit to one day a week for an hour. Make a difference in the life of a student. Volunteer opportunities are ONCE A WEEK, IN-PERSON in Arlington, VA. Affordable Homes & Communities (AHC) believes Housing + Education = Success and has three education programs: The Reading Buddies program for elementary school students runs Monday - Thursday. Volunteers help with homework, reading and educational games for an hour sometime between 4:00-6:00pm depending on the community center. Teen Tutoring programs run between 6-8pm Monday - Thursday. Volunteers help middle & high school students with homework, organizational & study skills. The College & Career Readiness program mentors are matched with a high school junior or senior and set their own meeting times at public locations. Distribute boxes of food, including fruit, vegetables and canned goods, to low income senior citizens at AHC's Charter House, an affordable housing apartment building located in Silver Spring in walking distance of the Metro. Volunteers will bring food inside building and distribute it to residents using carts & elevators. Volunteers should be friendly and reliable, able to work in a small group and independently. Food boxes weigh between 20-40 pounds so volunteers must be able to lift that amount onto tables & carts. Help needed on: 1 st Wednesday of Each Month - 11:15 am to 1:30 pm 1st Thursday of Each Month - 10:30 am - 12:45 pm 3 rd.
