Venice Arts is an innovative arts center that brings talented artists together with young people to nurture their creativity, imagination, and talent. Our programs focus on those whose access to the arts, as artists or audience, has been limited. Venice Arts' mentor-artists guide young people through experiences with the arts, exposing them to the tools, ideas, and environments that help them express their creativity, build positive interethnic relationships, and improve their academic performance and job readiness. Our programs are available to youth ages 8-18; we accomodate special needs children; our programs are free to low income youth and also available to families who are able to pay.
We offer classes and opportunities to kids in and around the Venice community. We offer workshops in: photography, video, animation, comics and more.
Similar to previous comments - last year I encouraged my husband, an active filmmaker and editor, to apply to volunteer as the description of what they were looking for seemed like a perfect match (works in the arts, loves teaching, looking for opportunities to gain more experience, we live close by). He submitted pretty in-depth intake materials (including responses to short essay prompts) as well as livescan fingerprinting paperwork and never heard anything. No confirmation that his application was received, no response to follow up emails, nothing. Given the amount of work the org asks of potential volunteers up-front, this seems like a pretty negative first impression that I'm sad to see echoed by other reviewers.
