Are you a recent high school graduate or college student thinking about pursuing a career in medicine, nursing or allied health fields? If so, you may want to consider becoming a hospice volunteer. In this role you will experience direct patient contact and observe what constitutes comfort care without curative intent. Our hospice patients reside in nursing homes and memory care facilities, extended care facilities and in their homes. Medical schools and nursing programs seek students who are compassionate and dedicated to helping people rather than those that just recite clinical terminology to patients. As a volunteer you will provide companionship and support to individuals who are at the end of their life's journey. Over time, you will likely build unforgettable relationships with patients while learning their life stories. Each hospice patient's journey is unique and you will have the privilege of being present during this most private time in their life. A typical visit with a patient may include reading a book or watching a movie together, talking, doing a favorite craft or simply holding a patient's hand. Our Volunteer Coordinator provides comprehensive training and ongoing support. If you want to gain valuable patient experience before enrolling in medical school, a nursing program, or various allied health programs please contact us below!
