Mission Statement

In the wake of the catastrophic earthquake in Haiti on January 12, 2010, a strategic partnership developed between leaders of South Florida's Haitian community, prominent businesspeople, elected officials, labor and relief organizations with the shared vision of combining forces to provide immediate relief to our suffering neighbors, capacity building for the rapidly growing South Florida Haitian community, and the groundwork for ongoing collaboration in the reconstruction of a sustainable Haiti. Thus Konbit for Haiti was birthed.

Konbit for Haiti is a 501(c) (3) which launched its community-based hub out of a storefront in Little Haiti and offers considerable capacity to the relief and rebuild efforts. The Konbit for Haiti partnership is a long-term commitment to addressing Haiti's recovery needs.

This Community Center will serve as a central information clearinghouse and volunteer operation that will connect available resources to the considerable short and long term needs in the Haitian communities in South Florida and in Haiti:

Efforts underway include:

· Health care professional mobilization and deployment

. Logistics Assistance for Immediate Responce effrots

· Stress management and other support services

· Meeting space provided to community groups

· Referrals to local service providers

· Volunteer recruitment and coordination

· TPS application assistance

Description

Konbit for Haiti provides volunteers who know the language and culture along with other resources to help Haiti's relief, recovery and rebuilding efforts. We are a Haitian Diaspora organization - Haitians who live outside the country - working to make sure that Haiti will rebuild and grow. We advocate for the policies, laws, investments and aid money that Haiti desperately needs in order to recover. We are showing the world that Haiti is resilient but requires significant and sustained investments in its future.

We provide a Haitian empowerment and leadership development center in South Florida. People come here to learn job skills such as computer training, participate in youth development training and mobilize people and resources for Haiti. This is where Konbit for Haiti mobilized supplies, water, clothing and food to send to Haiti following the earthquake in 2010 - and where people in need can still come to use free computer services and telephones to contact their loved ones back home.
