Mission Statement
S.F. Crisis Care helps people impacted by personal tragedies to rebuild healthy, fulfilling lives. We do this by providing on-scene practical and emotional support to survivors impacted by infant deaths, suicides, fatal accidents and other daily tragedies.
Description
Trained, on-call crisis volunteers from all walks of life respond to requests from the S.F. Police and Fire Departments to provide practical and emotional support to impacted survivors immediately after personal tragedies. This support can include offering survivors a calming compassionate presence, helping convene other family friends and personal support, protecting survivors from weather, media and onlookers, providing referrals to agencies that offer long-term follow-up, and providing other practical help as needed. Survivors receiving such support are more likely to begin rebuilding healthy, fulfilling, productive lives, rather than spiraling down into despair and other mental health problems, substance abuse, school failure, job loss, family breakup and even suicide.
