Mission Statement

The mission of Twenty-first Century Sisterhood, Inc. is to aid young women in metropolitan Detroit, ages nine through seventeen, at-risk of academic failure, introduction to illegal drugs, teen pregnancy, sexual abuse, and victimization, to explore and access information, supports, resources and opportunities to make positive choices for themselves, their family and their community. 

Description

We follow our participants through to the completion of high school. Toward this end, we develop programming to meet participants challenges throughout their adolescent years and hire staff to facilitate and implement long-term programming. Currently, Twenty-first Century Sisterhood, Inc. has 3 program components: (1) School-Based Mentoring is designed to assist girls, ages 9 - 17, identified by school personnel being at greatest risk of juvenile delinquency, victimization and abuse. We provide these young women with the opportunity to explore and access mainstream quality of life. Girls are matched 4:1 with a Group Leader Mentor (2) Sister Circles - Provide a forum for girls, age 14 - 17, to discuss issues relevant to them and resolve challenges in a safe place with an adult Group Facilitator. (3) Lil' Sister Links - link girls to adult associations, clubs and other social and professional groups in order to improve girls' peer and adult relationships through bi-monthly group and one-to-one meetings with mentors.
