Mission Statement
Church Alive Food Ministry's mission is to extend its services from being a food provider for the deprived and less fortunate to a committed community service provider by enlarging services in the sphere of health, food and nutrition to a large and diverse audience and thus improving the lifestyle of the members of the community in a comprehensive way.
Description
Church Alive Food Ministry founded by Rev. Dr. Birkett, was first established as a hunger hotline in 1987 and later evolved into a full-scale food pantry in 1990. Rev. Dr. Birkett who has a long history of community activism envisioned the project to address issues of hunger and poverty and to also become a holistic community welfare center. The Food Ministry was established on the premise that many immigrant and non-immigrant families were lacking in self-sufficiency primarily due to food deprivation. A large number of people were on public assistance and unable to provide food for their families. It became increasingly apparent to the Ministry that families would benefit greatly by starting a food pantry that would not only provide food but also in turn enhance the physical, mental and spiritual aspects of the people of the community.
