Mission Statement

The Open Gate Human Rights Theatre is a not-for-profit theatre committed to the development and presentation of plays that uphold human rights as fundamental to the development of a more civilized global community. With the United Nations' Universal Declaration of Human Rights as our compass, we depict the story of our time as a struggle to overcome war, terror, and oppression and to promote justice, human decency, and community. We confront this challenge by: - Commissioning new plays and translations of works by writers engaged in these struggles - Staging new productions of contemporary classics with relevance to human rights - Presenting special events such as symposia involving noted artists and human rights experts. In pursuit of this mission our goal is to be accurate, credible, and well informed, drawing on the knowledge, experience and commitment of human rights specialists. Within our own artistic circle, The Open Gate is committed to working in a creative atmosphere that exemplifies the values of mutual respect and human dignity.

Description

The Open Gate will produce "Unresolved" in November-December 2002. This production is a collection of original one-act plays on a theme of grief recovery relating to 9/11. We will be speaking most directly to survivors and victim's families as well as the general public. We are working closely with Hold the Door for Others, a not-for-profit support organization for World Trade Center survivors and victim's families.
