Mission Statement

BPSOS- Philadelphia is one of 13 community-based service centers sponsored by Boat People, S.O.S. BPSOS is a non-profit organization working at the national level to assist and empower Vietnamese immigrants and refugees in America. BPSOS collaborates with Vietnamese American communities to provide a range of programs and services that meet urgent needs today -- while helping those communities build their own local capacity to address challenges they face tomorrow. The Philadelphia center and other local service centers are the primary mechanism through which BPSOS supports local community development, grassroots mobilization, and empowerment towards self-sufficiency. BPSOS pursues its mission at the national level, while the Philadelphia center works at the local level to achieve this same mission: 1. To provide relief, assistance, and support to Vietnamese refugees and immigrants in their search for freedom and a dignified life; 2. To empower, equip and organize Vietnamese-American communities in their progress towards self-sufficiency and integration; 3. To collaborate with organizations, agencies, and ethnic communities that share similar visions, goals, and values.
