Mission Statement

Mountain Empire Older Citizens, Inc. is committed to the prevention of unnecessary and/or inappropriate institutionalization of older persons by: the development and maintenance of comprehensive user-friendly community based long term care services in Lee, Wise, Scott Counties, and the City of Norton; recognizing that families provide the bulk of care for older people and then developing a user-friendly comprehensive infrastructure to support family caregivers; and by serving as an active and responsible advocate on issues affecting older persons. Mountain Empire Older Citizens, Inc. is further committed to the concept of intergenerational programming and is devoted to developing programs utilizing the talents and skills of both the young and the old in service to each other. Mountain Empire Older Citizens, Inc. strongly believes that healthy people and healthy families result in healthy communities and works to achieve this. Thus MEOC emphasizes wellness and health promotion as part of its mission to promote a quality life for all older people until death. Physical health, mental health, economic security, spirituality, and emotional health are all important, interrelated aspects of true wellness. Mountain Empire Older Citizens, Inc. is committed to developing and maintaining a specialized and public transportation system that is for all ages, all clients and patients of area health and human services organizations, and which is seamless and coordinated.
