Mission Statement

Hospitality House Youth Development provides a Christian outreach focused on the spiritual, intellectual and physical development of inner city youth and their families.

Description

Hospitality House Youth Development, founded in 1960 and incorporated in 1963, is committed to developing responsible career staff persons to reach out to urban youth, ages 5-18, in their physical and intellectual development, their social integration and their spiritual birth and growth in Jesus Christ. Program leadership is responsive to parents, school authorities, youth, churches, and community organizations. Staff members are maturing, compassionate adults with a consistent personal commitment to Jesus Christ as evidenced by their life style that conforms to Biblical disciplines. They serve as vital role models in a world that so desperately needs such living examples. We believe that any project or program is only as good as the staff person directing it and the volunteers who support them. Quality staff and volunteers will develop quality programs and lasting relationships with young people. There is a real concern for "walking through life with youth." Programs generally fall into the following areas: 1. Education 2. Athletics 3. Performing Arts 4. Small Group Active Learning Environments. These programs provide a framework to address our long range objectives of training youth in the Christian faith and encouraging their development as responsible, contributing members of their families, schools, churches and communities. Hospitality House operates on a holistic model, meeting the emotional, physical, intellectual and spiritual needs of all youth.

It was easy to help. My mom and I went in twice and we were given a clear project and the supplies we needed to get it done. Sarah was friendly and appreciative. She was flexible with our schedule needs, too.

It is a great organization and you are truly making a difference in these children's lives with your presence. You do not have to spend many hours of your spare time to make a difference. The feeling of helping them and seeing their smiles is more significant than any money a person can receive.

My daughter, her friend, and I have been so blessed working with the kids on Friday Fun days over the last several months! The kids are wonderful and seem to really enjoy our time together, whether playing games, doing crafts, or our favorite...making treats in the kitchen!

Not only are the staff at this organization consummate professionals, but their goals and aims are above reproach. I find that spending my time volunteering here is the single most rewarding thing in my life, and have never regretted, even for a second, my decision to become a volunteer with Hospitality House Youth Development.

This is a great organization that I have volunteered with a few times now. They have a great mission and have so many programs for the kids in the North Minneapolis community. The kids are great and I guarantee they will be your favorite part about volunteering with HHYD.
