Mission Statement

The United Methodist Church officials are working together with the community to focus the churches' efforts into reversing the trends of failure commonly found in Camden youth development. They want to ensure implementation of effective and comprehensive programs that will provide long-lasting changes in Camden. This organization is determined to reach Camden City youth through outreach with structured activities, youth forums, leadership development and positive peer and adult relationships.

CUMI is dedicated to helping the youth to develop the capacity to thrive despite a unfortunate situations of Camden. By building connections between the youth and with trained adults and opening dialogue among the youth, we believe the youth will mature into caring, successful adults that will stay involved and better the community of Camden, NJ.

Camp CUMI and the Skills-N-Drills program are CUMI's two major outreach programs for camp Youth. CUMI facilitates a summer day camp at a very low cost for the promising at-risk children of Camden. This upcoming year will be the third year running. The camp included bible lessons, crafts, and learning and preforming songs and skits. The camp also included various field trips including trips to the Aquarium, Camden's Children Garden, Playdrome for bowling, African drum performance at King Church and Mann music center.

CUMI endorses New Beginnings UMC Youth Leadership Academy's Skills-N-Drills Basketball Program. A program that is held at the New Beginning Church. The Skills-N-Drills Program does not only teach children the fundamentals of Basketball and the importance of being physically fit, but it will focus on teaching children teamwork, leadership, responsibility and trust.

CUMI is constantly expanding and reach out in support of Camden youth throughout the year including hosting a Cantata called "Oh my stars, It's Christmas!" directed by Rev. Lyssette Perez, held at Asbury UMC.
