Mission Statement

Wings of Mercy, MN (Wings) primary mission is to supply free air transportation to people with limited financial means who need to travel to receive specialized medical services. We have helped people aged 6 months to 90 years receive care for conditions ranging from congenital abnormalities to cancer. The people who utilize Wings live in smaller communities without access to the services they need, or far away from the specialty centers that can treat them. All of the people we serve are low income. While they have insurance coverage for their medical treatment, they cannot afford to travel to receive the treatment.

Description

The Wings of Mercy program works because it combines the financial donations of our benefactors with expertise and resources of our volunteers. Our FAA certified pilots donate their time and their aircraft. The Wings Safety Director certifies the planes. Wings incurs no cost for storage of the planes, no insurance costs, no training costs, etc. The only expense Wings incurs for transporting people to receive medical care is the reimbursement of aviation fuel consumed during transportation. The average cost to perform a mercy flight is $1450. The pilots cover most of this cost. Wings reimburses pilots on average $425 per mercy flight. Two years ago this fuel cost was $285.
