Mission Statement

To provide an efficient and supportive network of assistance for citizens re-entering our community after incarceration, those homeless and others at-risk

Description

Whatcom County Re-Entry Coalition (WCREC) Works with men, and women transitioning to the community from incarceration. We work with offenders and their families to create a release plan before leaving incarceration.

National Registry for Reentry Program (NRRP):

This program is vetted for felons and their families. We provide the resources through our database to find housing first, food, clothing and employment, with over 7000 resources in Washington State alone. This database is now going national to provide resources for offenders and their families.

Change a Life Center:

Provides Resume building, Life Skills training, GED, transitional housing, workskills training, and treatment for Whatcom County. This will be a replication project.

Schools:

Prevention and Early Intervention, Choices and Consequences Panel of former felons and police representative answer questions by students as to why they did what they did, what did you learn, what was your experience, etc. Most effective program - students very attentive and focused.

Restorative Justice Project:

Sheriff Bill Elfo, Public Defender Jon Komorowoski, Scott Snider - Bellingham City Police, David Webster - Mayor’s rep, Judge Chuck Snyder, Moonwater - Dispute Resolution Center, and 13 District Court Probation Officers. No one opposes our proposal.

We believe that community safety comes from second chances and not homelessness.
