Mission Statement

The mission of Promoting Responsibility through Education and Preparation (PREP) is to enhance higher-order thinking and problem solving skills for at risk children, ages 10 -18 and to increase academic performance and prevent substance abuse. Further it is within our scope of services, to enhance student's self esteem, self-awareness and to promote the valuing of individual cultural differences. PREP's goal is to ensure that the youngest and most vulnerable citizens of the city of St. Louis have the skills and support to make healthy choices now and in the future.

Description

PREP mentors attend a one - hour orientation and are expected to complete a minimum of 20 one-hour weekly mentoring sessions with their protégé. Protégés are generally between the ages of 9 and 11. Mentoring sessions take place at the protégé's school during regular school hours. A special meeting is held monthly for PREP mentors to ask questions, present ideas, express concerns, and obtain mentoring assistance. PREP mentors are encouraged, but not required, to continue their relationship beyond 20 sessions. PREP staff is here to offer lots of support, mentoring ideas, and answer all of your questions.
