Mission Statement

The mission of the Newark Department of Parks and Recreation is to improve the quality of life for all residents of Newark, by providing a wide variety of leisure and cultural activities, special events, facilities and services that encourage health, fitness, relaxation, enjoyment, creative expression, cultural enrichment and learning, as well as providing opportunities for community involvement. In addition, our department strives to improve the quality of the landscape by enhancing the appreciation and care of the natural environment through maintenance and/or development of open space, parks, roadside areas, public grounds and medians.

Description

The City of Newark Parks and Recreation Department offers several venues for community participation, education, exercise, arts, cultural events, sports, childcare, enrichment, and leisure time activities. Multiple events and programs are held and must utilize volunteers for successful operation.

652 acres or parklands, open spaces, and 15 miles of trails are maintained for public use and enjoyment, and volunteers assist with this weighty task.
