Mission Statement

The McVOAD Mission is to provide a structure for supporting the long term disaster recovery efforts of participating organizations and individuals.

Description

MCVOAD was organized to support relief efforts following the November 15, 2005 tornado which struck Marshall County, Kentucky and surrounding areas. The organization was formed under the direction of the Chairperson of KYVOAD by a steering committee comprised of representatives from several area churches, the local Red Cross chapter, Marshall County DES, UMCOR, theFamilyResourceCentersof the local school district, and other interested parties. The initial focus of the organization was to assist the organizations and people ofMarshallCountyin the long term tornado recovery efforts. The decision to organize as a local VOAD was made so that the structures, training, and other activities could become a permanent foundation for future relief efforts, and for the preparation to mitigate future disasters in the community. The initial funding grant was received from Church World Service.
