Mission Statement

To help adults meet their goals and expand their opportunities. We change lives at home, at work and in the community.

Description

Bay Area Literacy (BALit) is the consortium of the 25 literacy programs located in libraries in 11 Bay Area counties. The programs have different names in each city or county (e.g. Project Read, Second Start, Vision Literacy). Our programs provide free tutoring for adults wanting to improve their reading, writing and basic education skills. Some literacy programs have programs for families, with inmates and with computer training. Learn more by visiting our Members page at http://www.literacynet.org/balit. Volunteers make our work possible. If you know someone who would like to improve his or her skills, please tell them about our programs. They can call their libraries or 1-888-740-7323 (READ).
