Mission Statement

Trinity Group Homes, Inc. seeks to improve the lives of residents diagnosed with severe and persistent mental illness in North Idaho by providing life skills training in residential group home settings. We were started in 1979 and incorporated in 1980 by local individuals to provide drug and alcohol free homes where individuals can learn to live independent lives with their mental illness. We maintain four semi-independent group homes in the Kootenai County, Idaho, with 32 individual rooms in all four units, three of which are duplex homes.

Our primary goal is to consistently improve service delivery for people in our community who suffer from mental illnesses. One significant difference in the success of our residents by helping them become self-sufficient for indepe has proven to be our Life Skills Program. We stress and educate our residents to prepare them for independent living, either with Trinity or in the community. We are the only facility in Northern Idaho that provides supported homes. We work closely with the idaho Department of Health and Welfare, the Kootenai County Mental Health Court and with Probation and Parole staff to provide housing for those individuals with mental illness who have felony records.

We strive to educate the community by helping to "de-stigmatize" this tragic disease, as well as promote community awareness for this often-misunderstood group of individuals. Secondarily, we strive to reduce the amount of re-hospitalization and to prevent homelessness among the mentally ill. Our Life Skills program frequently makes a sign

Trinity operates at no cost to the taxpayers; we receive no local, state or federal funds. All costs are paid by residents’ payments (70%), from corporate & business grants (18%), fundraisers (4%), direct public support (5%) and indirect public support and donations (3%). Many of the Trinity Group Homes residents we serve were formerly homeless, were in State hospitals or were incarcerated. There is a far greater need for the housing and life skills support services we offer than Trinity can satisfy. We are the only semi-independent residential facility in the five northern counties for those with severe and persistent mental illness. Since 1998, 80% of all of our residents have succeeded in remaining at Trinity or moving to totally independent living; some of them are able to resume employment. The average cost per day house individuals in state or local government hospitals per day is $889, while for-profit hospitals are $1,969 per day and non-profit hospital cost
