Mission Statement

The American Cancer Society (ACS) is the "nationwide community-based voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives, and diminishing suffering from cancer, through research, education, advocacy, and service."

Description

The American Cancer Society is dedicated to helping people

  1. Stay Well: through prevention & detection
  2. Get Well: provide programs and services that enhance the quality of life for those diagnosed with cancer.
  3. Find Cures: largest funder of cancer research outside of the federal government. 44 our of research grant recipients have gone on to win the Nobel Prize
  4. Fight Back: volunteers assisting cancer survivors, caregivers and family members in a variety of way. One major way we fight back is to make our voice heard in Washington DC and in Harrisburg as legistlation arises which would have either a positive or negative impact on prevention & detection or health care.
