Mission Statement

Horizons is an academic, cultural and recreational enrichment program designed to encourage students from a diverse low-income population to realize their full potential. Horizons, working in partnership with families, is committed to the development of the whole child through experiences that build problem-solving skills, foster awarenes of community responsibility, instill respect for others, and encourage a life-long interest in learning.

Description

The program is year-round and includes the six-week Summer Program. This program uniquely emphasizes academic, cultural, recreational enrichment programs and social growth by combining academic classes with a broad array of stimulating activities designed to broaden the interests of children and motivate them. The Winter Connection, now in its eighth year, continues to grow. Among other offerings the students attend Saaturday School, enrichment lessons, tutoring, cultural events. parties and trips and the parents have an opportunity to get involved with programs geared to issues of parenting. Developed five years ago, the Outreach Program continues the relationship between Horizons and its students as they transition to high school and eventually college.
