Volunteers work with clients that come to the FJC to recieve services from various agencies. Volunteers conduct interviews with the clients to ensure that they recieve the appropriate services and talk with the appropriate agencies. Volunteers assist in coodinating between the clients and the agencies. If the volunteers speak Spanish they assist in translating for the Spanish speaking clientelle. The FJC is held every Tuesday from 5 -8 pm. Volunteers are needed from 4:00 to 8:30 pm every Tuesday to help set up for the clinic and clean up after the clinic. This volunteer experience aligns well with an education in Social work, Behavioral sciences, or a related field. There is a 40 hour trauma training that is required in order to begin this volunteer experience. Due to the level of training we require a 6 month commitment.

We currently have enough volunteers for Tuesday and Thursday nights. Check back in March for some openings the end of the school year. The Children and Teen Treatment Programs at the Children's Justice Center serve children, teens, and families who have been affected by sexual abuse. These weekly groups are run by licensed clinical therapists and provide opportunities for families to learn skills, manage emotions, and enhance their personal safety after experiencing a trauma. Volunteers are needed to set up rooms, sign in families, help with children during group sessions, and contribute to the overall therapeutic atmosphere. The Children's Justice Center is a homelike facility, which serves children and families who are experiencing the crisis and chaos that come with the disclosure of significant physical or sexual abuse of a child. The function of the Children's Justice Center is to reduce the trauma of the child abuse investigation and help the child feel safe to reveal the truth. The Onsite Victim Support program involves spending time with many different children while they are visiting the Children's Justice Center. The volunteer agrees to come in for a two-hour shift, Monday-Friday between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m., at the same time every week. The volunteer plays with and talks to children here for interviews and medical exams. This position requires a four-month commitment, a one-hour orientation, and a background check.

A Victim Assistance mentor's role is to be a friend, a positive influence and a reliable and consistent presence in the life of a child who has been through an abuse investigation. A Victim Assistance mentor is paired up with a child to work with one-on-one, on a weekly basis, for six months. A Victim Assistance mentor is encouraged to participate in fun and healthy activities with the child. New Victim Assistance mentors are required by the state to attend 40 hours of volunteer training, commit to six months with a child, and pass a background check. Training sessions are held weeknights and Saturdays in January, May and September.
