Description

John Muir National Historic Site (JOMU) is a National Park Service (NPS) area located in the City of Martinez in Contra Costa County on the East Bay side San Francisco Bay Area. The NPS site commerates the environmental and land conservation education work of John Muir during his final 24 years of life here on a 2600 acre fruit and nut ranch. The park is 339 acres in size and all is within the city limits of Martinez. The park contains three historic structures,9 acres of fruit orchards, 326 acres of open spaces with hiking trails. The remaining acres is NOT publicly accessible. The park greets approximately 35,000 visitors a year approx. 33% of which are elementary school age visitors.
