Mission Statement

The mission of Uptown Faith Community Service Center is help to help homeless people and those in desperate need, without discrimination, to live in dignity and to become self-supporting members of our community.

Description

History

The Uptown Faith Community Service Center was founded in 1984 by a group of ministers from eleven different Christian congregations in the "uptown" area of San Diego. These ministries perceived a need to provide services for the homeless residing in the area. These services have evolved to include mail service, food, clothing, hygiene items, as well as assistance in obtaining a California State ID.

The UFCSC facility is staffed entirely with volunteers from supporting congregations as well as from the greater San Diego community. In 2010, St. Paul’s Cathedral turned its thrift shop over to Uptown. This thrift shop is now known as Uptown Thrift and is located in Hillcrest. The proceeds from Uptown Thrift provide financial support to help keep UFCSC operating and servicing the community. Funding for UFCSC is provided by local congregations, proceeds from Uptown Thrift, and the generous support from the San Diego community at large.
