To guide young men and women, ages 12 through 18, along an exciting pathway for personal development by involving them in the marine sciences through underwater marine research activities such as special environmental and undersea conservation projects that builds character, promotes active citizenship, and develops effective leadership skills.
SCUBAnauts International (SNI) provides year-round experiential learning opportunities for a diverse group of young men and women, ages 12-18. Each SNI Chapter provides high quality advanced science and scientific dive training programs. Monthly Chapter meetings are openly available to the public and include presentations by professional marine scientists, science and dive training, and marine science learning activities for youth. SNI also organizes authentic marine research opportunities led by professional marine scientists. These range from year-round research projects investigating local marine resources to international and nationnal research expeditions including live aboards and marine labs. Youth research projects have included reef and seagrass habitat monitoring, marine archeological surveys, GIS mapping projects of seagrass and hardbottom habitats, reef fish assessments, and coral restoration projects. Each Chapter also organizes community and environmental outreach projects (e.g., coastal and river cleanups and invasive species removal).
