Youth United for Survival is dedicated to helping youth who have experienced trauma develop into healthy and responsible people through positive youth development programs.

Description

Y-US, Inc. founded in 1989 by Brother Marcus Turcotte, serves youth ages infant to young adults in Hartford, CT. Y-US believes in serving children who have experienced abuse or trauma for the long-term in a cooperative peer-group setting. It is unique in its approach for other organizations. It runs from 6 AM to 8:30 PM Monday- Fridays and every other Saturday. Y-US operates four programs serving about 250 youths per year:

1- Better Horizons- serves children ages 8-16 yrs. from the southern half of Hartford. Participants meet after school twice a week and two Saturdays per month. Activities include: peer support meetings, therapeutic play, arts & crafts, life-skills training, summer campouts, field trips and special events.

2- Fee For Service- is an individualized program of planned and emergency care for children paid on an hourly basis by DCF or other funders in response to an identified need. Ages served include infants to young adults.

3- Project FLY (Forward Looking Youth)- provides youth ages 13 yrs. and older life-skills and entrepreneurial experiences. Small business ventures experiences , group meetings and excursions are included.

4- Junior Youth Worker- A small employment training and mentoring program for several youth who get paid for providing general assistance for the after school programs, two afternoons a week each.
