Mission Statement
Nellie’s Catwalk for Kids (NC4K) mission as a growing non-profit organization is to help raise awareness and funds for pediatric cancer in a fun and fashionable way. Our main goal is to prevent any more children or teens from suffering from this disease, and to help each patient in Columbus and beyond by improving their quality of life. Over the last five years NC4K has raised over $50,000 from various events, and those proceeds have gone towards funding research for pediatric cancer, helping improve cancer patient’s overall quality of life through our Nellie’s Kid/Teen Club, and help NC4K grow as a whole. NC4K hopes to expand to other major cities and to also annually increase the funds raised and help decrease the number of children being diagnosed with cancer. There will be a cure for childhood cancer and with the help of this community we will overcome this disease.
Description
Nellie's Catwalk for Kids has the unique edge of being led by all teens and young adults that are joining forces to make a difference for families with a child suffering from cancer. Nellie's Catwalk for Kids was founded in 2007 by Nellie Krumlauf when she was only sixteen years old. Even though Nellie never had cancer herself she knew this was her purpose in life and is not stopping until there is a cure. Each and every year the organization grows tremendously and serves more and more cancer families. NC4K currently has four main events for communities to get involved in, including: the dance marathon, 5K run, golf outing, and the largest event is the fashion show with over 3,000 attendees. These events are designed to appeal to different demographics and to make it fun and easy for everyone to make a difference. The funds raised from these events help us do what we do best, support our families and raise more awareness for pediatric cancer. In addition to the community events, NC4K has over 15 high school "Nellie's Clubs" which are led by upperclassmen. Nellie's Club members raise awareness within their high school and also have a once a month fundraiser on behalf of NC4K. There is a program called Nellie's Kids and Teen Club which is designed to serve cancer patients in treatment, in remission, and also the families that have lost their child to cancer. The program provides care packages, one on one time with Nellie, complimentary family activities to build memories, and also financial support for the families.
Nellie's main goal is to act as a big sister to these kids and teens battling cancer and just help them escape from all their worries. All the different elements NC4K has to offer has truly set us apart from other foundations and just within five years has raised funds and awareness for pediatric cancer in a fun and fashionable way!
