Description

As a San Francisco-based arts organization now in its 30th season, the Kronos Quartet has become a leading voice for new work. Combining a unique vision with fearless dedication to experimentation, Kronos has assembled a body of work unparalleled in its range and scope of expression and, in the process, has captured the attention of audiences worldwide. In addition to working closely with modern masters, Kronos commissions new works from today's most innovative composers from around the world. Kronos performs a concert series in the San Francisco Bay Area, and tours throughout the United States and internationally with more than 100 concerts each year. Throughout 2002/03, Kronos Quartet plans to: present world premiere commissions to local, national, and international audiences; collaborate with artists and musicians from diverse aesthetic and cultural backgrounds; maintain a rehearsal space and guest artist residence in San Francisco to enhance the Quartet's rehearsals with composers and musicians; record future releases on the Nonesuch label at Skywalker Sound; provide educational activities for school-aged children and young adults; sustain a financially stable non-profit organization by developing earned and contributed revenue sources; and support artistic and administrative professionals working and living in San Francisco. Perhaps no other ensemble has promoted the musical "present" more convincingly than Kronos in demonstrating its commitment to its artistic mission.
