Mission Statement
To promote the peaceful resolution of conflict by providing alternative dispute resolution services, training and consultation.
Description
The DRC is a private, not-for-profit organization dedicated to helping people resolve conflicts through its many programs. At the heart of this effort is Alternative Dispute Resolution.
Mediation is a process where one or two neutral mediators help people in conflict reach a solution.
Just about any type of conflict is appropriate for mediation. The DRC mediates disputes between married couples, neighbors, parents and children, landlords and tenants, businesses and consumers, and just about anyone else in conflict.
The mediators are people from the community who volunteer their time to help others resolve their disputes. They are trained under the New York State Unified Court System Community Dispute Resolution Centers Program. Mediators with particular training and/or experience are used for specialty mediations such as divorce and parent access (custody/visitation.)
