SOVA is a non-sectarian program of Jewish Family Service of Los Angeles dedicated to fighting hunger and poverty in our community. In addition to distributing free groceries for more than 8,000 people each month at three storefront food pantry locations, SOVA offers supportive services at each pantry's resource center, providing access to job counselors and other on-site services as well as information about other resources.
SOVA provides groceries, personal hygiene items, and supportive services to individuals with low incomes throughout greater Los Angeles. SOVA operates storefront pantries in West Los Angeles, the Hollywood area, and the San Fernando Valley.
You are able to get free groceries once a month here. The first time you go be prepared to spend a few hours because they have an intake process. The amount of food that you receive will depend on the number of individuals that are in your home. You will be required to bring some sort of documentation identifying each of the listed "dependents" on the second visit. They also offer Job services, and a few times a month there is a person from the DPSS there to help you apply for food stamps and/or Medi-Cal. I suggest you take a car or go with a friend who has a car, because depending on the size of your family you won't be able to carry what they give you in a few grocery bags.
Once you have gone for three consecutive months, you may be given a $50.00 clothes voucher for you and each dependent in your home. You must use this voucher at one of their thrift stores run by the Jewish family Services. YOU MUST ASK FOR THIS VOUCHER!
