Description

Who We Are:

CONNECT is a non-profit that has been working for the past 13 years to prevent interpersonal (domestic, family, dating, etc.) violence and foster gender justice. By building partnerships with individuals and communities, we strive to help change the beliefs, behaviors and institutions that perpetuate violence. Through legal empowerment, grassroots mobilization and transformative education, we seek to create safe families and peaceful communities. We help make NYC safer for women and girls.

What We Do:

CONNECT develops model programs that focus on prevention, early intervention and, most importantly, community-generated solutions; trains service providers and community members to identify and assist families experiencing violence; and motivates system reform and policy changes by providing expertise to government and organizing affected constituencies to participate in the policy making process.

Individual: Provides legal assistance to those currently struggling with domestic violence, with a particular focus on undocumented and refugee women and training and supporting community members joining the movement to end violence against women.

Community: Builds partnerships with over 200 community-based organizations including: schools; health clinics; faith-based, immigrant services, and youth services organizations and businesses and work with them to develop ways to prevent family violence in their own communities.

Systemic: Partners with NYPD, NYC schools, NYC social service agencies, hospitals, District Attorney’s Offices, New York Public Library, Animal Welfare agencies to transform the way they address the issue of family violence.
