The Flea Theater

A state of the art performance facility, the Flea has presented 36 plays, over 28 dance events, and over 40 concerts since its founding five years ago. It was named "The Best Performing Arts Group/Venue in New York City 2001" by Citysearch. The Flea is a non-profit organization dedicated to reviving Off Off Broadway. The Flea has as its original mandate to "raise a joyful hell in a small space." The Flea is Off Off Broadway, which is distinguished by a spirit of adventure. It is where established artists go to take risks that the commercial arena will not allow and it is where young aspiring performers learn their craft and develop their talents. Non-institutional and resolutely non-commercial, Off Off Broadway is as eclectic and varied as the city of New York. While other cities enjoy alternative theater and performance, none have communities as large and vital as New York City's Off Off Broadway.
