Mission Statement

Our mission is to enrich Buffalo’s waterfront experience by providing:

  • a significant architectural tourism destination
  • a center for rowing activity
  • a unique facility for business and social functions

Our visions is to have a thriving waterfront destination used by the community and visited regularly by anyone interested in our beautiful setting, extraordinary architecture, or the excitement of rowing.

Description

Designed in 1905, the Boathouse one of Frank Lloyd Wright’s favorite designs. He loved it so much he had it included in his Wasmuth Portfolio and took a scale model of it on tour his US and European tours even though it had never been built.

Almost 100 years after it was designed, three rowing friends had a vision similar to Wright’s when he designed it, the building gracing the shores of a beautiful river and being a center for youth rowing. So with years of effort Wright’s vision became reality when the Boathouse was built on the beautiful Niagara River and opened its doors in 2007.

Today the Boathouse is a functioning center for youth and adult rowing here in Buffalo, NY; a tourist attraction that brings thousands to see it annually; and a community event center with one of the best sunset views in the area.
