Mission Statement

To help families gain the tools and confidence to ensure that their children have successful academic careers by joining forces with the schools in their community.

Description

American Dream Academy (ADA) was created so that Latinos and other underserved populations have a chance to participate in American society as informed workers, citizens, and leaders. Working directly with schools in the lowest income neighborhoods of Phoenix, ADA educates predominantly first-generation, immigrant families on how to set priorities and goals in order for their children to finish high school and go on to a four-year college program.

Founded in 2006 by Raul Yzaguarre, ADA has directly impacted 40,730 youth through its work in 222 Title 1 schools in metropolitan Phoenix. The initial intervention is through parent engagement workshops delivered once per week for ten weeks. To date 15,500 parents have graduated from the program. Additional components such as financial literacy and leadership development have been added in the past year.
