Mission Statement
Our mission is to restore, preserve and operate historic Yates Mill, the last remaining gristmill in Wake County and one of the few in the world with a fully operational Oliver Evans automated milling system (patented 1790).
Description
Yates Mill Associates developed partnerships with Wake County and North Carolina State University, the mill owner and guardian, to develop a park around this significant relic. Today, this community resource also includes the A. E. Finley Center for Education and Research, and a 174 acre nature preserve.
The county-run park has a part-time volunteer coordinator to organize tours of the mill in cooperation with Yates Mill Associates. Tours serve the general public as well as school and community groups.
YMA itself needs volunteers to help with outreach, fundraising, public awareness and, potentially, sales and distribution of cornmeal ground at the historic mill.
