As part of our commitment to the We Honor Veterans program (a program of the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization), we are looking for military veterans to serve as volunteers and provide companionship to our patients who are also veterans. Veteran volunteers are important because they are able to form a camaraderie with veteran patients that can help eliminate the stoicism and secrecy that veteran patients often develop from having served in the armed forces. Veteran Volunteers can help by: Assist veterans in reminiscing/telling life stories Take part in pinning ceremonies or distribute certificates for Veteran’s Day and other recognition events Friendly visits Improve communication within families Provide respite for caregivers Read to patients Veteran volunteers have the unique ability to relate and connect with each veteran patient allowing them to become an essential piece in the delivery of quality end-of-life care. If you are a veteran and want to learn more about our volunteer program, please call 586-506-9110.

Do you enjoy music? Do you like to sing? Do play a musical instrument? Can you play music using a smart phone or CD player? YOU DON'T NEED A LOT OF TALENT! Just willing to give time to someone receiving hospice care. We appreciate a gifted musician, however, if you like to just play music or sing along you will still make a difference! Music and singing bring comfort and companionship to all people but is so appreciated by those who are confined to their homes or a facility. They need you as a volunteer to provide enjoyment and a quality of life. Only an hour or two a week makes a difference in people’s lives. We will train and support you every step of the way! Volunteers meet all sorts of people in hospice and each has a story and different circumstances. You will learn so much on how to enjoy the time you spend with them!
